Violinist helping students

Filed under: Celli — admin @ 4:15 pm

Rachel Barton, an accomplished violinist, set up her own foundation, Rachel Elizabet Barton Foundation (or REBF.org) to help students on stringed instruments! This foundation isn’t like normal ones, though. Her Foundation site says:

Young musicians are encouraged to apply to for a grant to help cover expenses such as:

  • fees for supplemental lessons
  • entrance fees to competitions
  • cost of audition recordings
  • travel expenses for competitions or auditions
  • sheet music purchase
  • accompanist fees
  • instrument repair and maintenance

They’ve a lovely stringed instrument loan program so students, who would not normally be able to afford playing a nice instrument, can play one and further their music career. The only thing, for myself, that I’m not happy about is that it’s for students between ages 10 and 30. D isn’t quite there and I’m over the top, at 34 - such an antique! lol.

Day of Theory apperant

Filed under: Music in General — admin @ 11:29 am

I’ve got some more sites to share about Music Theory. It’s still not quite what I was looking for, since I was more interested in the physics side of things, but here they are anyway:

MusicTheory.net

Filed under: Music in General — admin @ 10:05 am

I just found MusicTheory.net as I was looking for some help for this weekends’ piano lessons with J and D (I have two “students” now). Since it looks like a great reference tool -and you can download the whole site’s tools to your hard drive- I thought I’d share. :)

Happy toning!
