Practical Musician: Finding an instructor
This wonderful article answers many of the questions I’ve been getting in email from would-be strings students about finding a teacher. My first instructor was the only one I could find and he didn’t play ‘cello - he played violin. Needless to say, I got some incorrect techniques I’m still unlearning now. The article helps you find the “right teacher in five steps.” Can it be done? I don’t know.
I’m happy with my current instructor, and he displays a lot of the characteristics this article says you should look for. So, there’s definately something to this article’s advice. I wish that I had known of it before I began taking lessons from a violinist! ![]()
