Making a Cello

Filed under: Celli — admin @ 10:41 am

This person made a cello and took loads of pictures through the process.  It turned out quite nice, though they indicate there are lots of tool marks on the back of the body.  I couldn’t see the marks in the pictures.  My take on the whole thing is that there is a new talent emerging.  Perhaps we should watch to see if they become famous!

Composer’s Datebook

Filed under: Music in General — admin @ 11:51 am

American Public Media reminds us, on Sirius radio, that at one time, all music was new.  What a wonderful thought!  They also feature a terrific little talk program called Composer’s Datebook.  Their site doesn’t appear to have the bits they talk about on the radio, but it does give a fantastic overview of what was new this week and the year it was new.  Really, it’s worth checking out.

Music Dictionary

Filed under: Music in General — admin @ 4:52 pm

Today, I got curious and wondered what Chamber Music actually is.  What the heck is the difference between Symphonies, Sinfoniettas, Chamber Musicians, etc?  So I found a dictionary of music that gives a great overview of these.  You have to go into the Glossary section of their site and *poof* information abounds!

My first composition

Filed under: Celli — admin @ 5:34 pm

This is my first composition, Tea Party at Boyd. I figured that would be an apt title, since it was written in anticipation of the Tea Parties we will hold at Boyd once again. About Boyd, in Boyd, by a Boydian. :)

What do you think?

Music writing tool

Filed under: Music in General — admin @ 11:15 am

Yah!! Too cool! I just got some music from the Hood River Jr Strings group that was hand written and I had some real trouble deciphering it in some cases. So, clusty.com internet search to the rescue! What I garnered from the search is just awesome. It’s even a freebie!

If you want to write music out and don’t want to do it by hand, go out to the Finale site and get their free NotePad tool. It works smoothly and easily. In order to share with you what I used it for, I printed it to a pdf file… You can see those files on my site.
